I like the look of taller velocity stacks. I am running solex carbs.. Is there a taller velocity stack that will work on the car?

For Solex carbs; not sure, but definitely not necessary. Given that solexes with the air cleaner barely fit under the decklid, taller manifolds would pose issues using the stock set up...

The velocity stacks fitted to the Solex's are already tuned in length for it's powerband. If you increase the length you'll move the powerband up the rev range probably out of the range of it's engine speed (is the engine stock?), and it could be horrible to drive.

If however you've built a shortstroke 2.5 using 89mm barrels and pistons which spins at 8-9k RPM then you'd want to work out the intake length and maybe make some longer ones. Easy enough to do from spun alloy.

Pick up a copy of a magazine called "dune buggies and hot VWs". They have a large number of vendors who advertise their products with pictures. A number of them list velocity stacks of different lengths and sizes. I haven't noticed any specifically listed for Solex carbs but I'm sure you can find something that either is a perfect fit or that you can make work. Pricing from these vendors because they are selling to the VW crowd is tyically less than from Porsche parts vendors...and some of the parts look exactly the same. I recently bought four chrome Weber velocity stacks for IDF Weber carbs on a 912 at $14 each. The company is "Moore Parts (www.mooreparts.com). They list weber velocity stacks in 2.5"; 4"; and 6" lengths. The quality appears appears to be excellent. But there are lots of other vendors in this magazine with pictures also to choose from. Good luck.
