    Early headlight, anyone recognise it?

Looks like Cibie is maked on the lens.

Hi Mike, I agree with Raj, the headlamp in question is a 7" Cibie biode housed in a 65 to 68 SWB casing. There should be a few that pop up on Ebay UK once in a while but they are so pricey these days as the Biodes are de-riguer equipment for any Escort Mk1 RS 1600 restoration.

    Clarification on lights

Let me ask about these lights.

The first is as shown on Randy Leffingwell's photo (last issue of Excellence) It this the Cibie Biode - dual bulb lamp? The small reflector is for low beam and the larger rear reflector is for the high beam? Is this correct?

    Second is a H-4 Marchal IODE Codif 612 41203.

Both of these are 7" and will fit in behind the clear Hella SB19-20-21 glass. Are they both period correct?

    Thanks,

There is an alternative to the otherwise pricey Cibie biodes, they are the CONVEX Ampliluxes ( not the flat ones for $400 ). These lights are a tad larger than your standard 7" and is longer in the back. Will only fit in your Hella SB's if you ditch the retaining ring, fitting them inside the bowl is another story

There's a pair on Ebay now ( for a Ferrari Lusso ) but you want a pair without the ears though.

If you want a pic you may pm or email me @ joeybau59@yahoo.com

Raj, thanks so much for posting those pictures, really helpful.
Judging from the picture which shows the depth of the cibie biode unit, it looks like it might be a tight fit in the headlight bowl of the fender!
    thanks, Mike

I bought a pair of lenses that are more flush than the H-4's I have from an independant VW shop for under $20. Looks more or less the same as the first pic's in the thread.
