Smile New toy for me, BMW 3.0L CSA - gorgeous!

I know there are many among us here who love these cars so I thought I would share...

Last weekend we drove 900kms in 2 days, with 2 trailers and 2 kids to collect my new toy. I have luckily become the new owner of a remarkably honest and original 1974 BMW 3.0L CSA, one of only 215 produced in RHD in that year.

The car is in pieces, went off the road in 1988 when the previous owner just kinda lost interest and has been stored in a barn since (yes I finally have my barnfind!). It has only done a genuine 148,000kms, has history, matching numbers, documented Aussie delivery etc...

Needs a lot of work, but is all there and will be getting a very sympathetic resto to original spec (which includes auto TM - car is too good to mess with).

Here she is going on the trailer for her trip home...and we are already into it around the other work we do!

Those are beautiful cars. Sure you don't want to do a 'batmobile' clone with it?

    Aah...let me think for a second...NO!!!!

Just like in the Early 911 world, original unmolested cars are few. As much as it would be tempting to build the spare motor up, whack a 5 speed in and "CSL" or "Bat" clone it...that won't be happening. My vision is to keep as much as possible old and original, not new and replaced.

It's just to good to mess with and we'll enjoy it as a Sunday cruiser. I may even be tempted to drive her daily for a while .

It's a really nice project for winter - will keep Mike and I out of trouble for a few months.

    Awesome

Always wanted a 3.0 myself. Still (occasionally) driving my 2002, i've had it since my 16th Bday.. Keep it original. Like you said, original is becoming rare..

Nice Lisa, very similar colour to one we saw at Techno Classica Essen last year:

    and of course...

This is one from the BMW centre at Le Mans Classic 2006, beautifully sharp:

And one we go on track with every so often:

Nice cars - a discerning choice. Good work

Lisa, as I told you soemwhere else, great car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot.

Here's a lousy picture of mine, it still needs a lot of work, but it's a great car to tour with the kids

Same car; same track. I have a 650MB file in photoshop (in various "states") that makes a hell of a poster. I've done one as large as 3x3"!

    Best,

Well I have a chance to look over this gem during the past 2 weeks since its been home and it is really looking very good. in fact its all it was promised and then some! The body has very little rust to the point of being almost totally rust free, which is just about unheard of. The electricals are even in good shape, the electric windows even work, not bad for a car that has sat for 20 years! The suspension is going to need rebuilding, but just the standard re-bush and shocker treatment. We are looking forward to the finished product and the journey in getting there.
