Looking for alternative air cleaners for MFI intake stacks

I am looking to come up with an alternative air cleaner set up for 1972 911T coupe that has its original MFI fuel set up. I just love the way the engine looks when I take off the air cleaner box off. There's so much more room without it.

I'd like to get individual air cleaners for each intake stack much like set ups I've seen on carburettor cars.

It would be nice, that way you can see everything on the top side of the engine. I called Pelican and they had no listings or ideas.

Has anyone out there done this before?

Thank you for your input in advance.

I could make you some like mine. I can put some filter medium of your choice in between the aluminum mesh you see here. The frame is flat aluminum stock as well.

It may require some fine tuning/fitting to your particular car.

I should say that I made these by hand so it may take me a while. You would be best to get either your plastic intake runners modified to accept Weber style rain shields/sir cleaners or get some magnesium intakes from an S that will accept the air cleaner assemblies without major modification.

Shops like TRE in Van Nuys California can make your plastic stacks work with some machining. tremotorsports.com Contact Dave Bouzaglou.

As you know, I posted in your thread. I admire your effort and like your concept.

Do you have a prototype to show?

You can install a set of K&N's or some watershields on top of injection stacks. You'll love the induction noise.

The watershields are made for carbs, though, and only fit on magnesium stacks. If you have plastic stacks, they need to be "hogged out" a bit to make the watershields fit.

At least this is my understanding. It looked a bit expensive for just the looks and sound and also would take a while to send to a shop somewhere. That is why I rigged up my own.

If anyone wants to do it themselves, I used some flat aluminum stock and Aluminum screen material from a home improvement store. I bent the Aluminum around my old plenum and secured the ends with Aluminum tape. I then cut out some 1'' oversized ovals of mesh and cut reliefs into the edges so that I could bend the perimerter down and secure to the frame with the Aluminum tape.

Mopar Boy, if you want to do this as a temporary job before you get your nice ones, let me know and I will tell you the whole procedure.

What kind of Mopar do you have? Dan Gurney AAR 'Cuda?

K&Ns can be had for the mag stacks ... you're just gonna have to bet the bushes to find 'em. I believe that ITG also has something for the early mag stacks as well.
