Details Details! Which Speaker Grille Is Correct For A 1969-1973?

I thought that I had a very good handle on almost everthing that was original ( and optional) on the 1971-73 911s but recently I have learned that there are a lot of little details that I have yet to learn about.

Just today I was reading on another post about a 1974 speaker grille. I had always (wrongly) assumed that 1974-76 had the same dash with speaker grille. You learn something new every day!

I humbly ask from the experts of the 2 NOS dashes I have which is the correct speaker grille for a 1973?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

    speaker grille

My 69 coupe came from a PO with the grille on the bottom, which I assumed was original but now, I'm not sure either!

    Grills

First one was seen in an original RS. Pretty original (paint and all).

Second one is from a car I once knew.

Top one is 73 bottom one is 74 on. See the post on the 911E for sale with 44k original miles and check the pictures from last year (on a linked thread) to the current pictures.

Here is a picture out of the 2.2 brochure of the dash.
Unfortunatly, there is no clear picture in the 2.4 72 or 73 brochure.

Here is a picture out of the 1974 model 2.7L brochure.
So I think the only correct one is the top one.

    Hi,

I have a 1970 911E Targa that I have owned since 1979. It has the speaker grille that has the restangular hole pattern. Back when I bought the car, the grille was in rough shape. The orignal owner told me that the speaker cover was original. I have been looking for a good replacement for it, but I only recently joined this organization. If you are going to sell the incorrect one, I would be interested in buying it to use until I can find a good cover that has the rectangular hole pattern.

    I hope this information helped.

    Sincerely,

    Gary R

The 69 grille is different to the 70 - 73 grille in 2 main ways

Firstly its held on by a spring clip arrangement and secondly and more importantly its a different size!!!

The grille is actually smaller than the 70 - 73 believe me I know as I bought a grilkle fthat was from a 73 and id does not fit

The 69 dash is like lots of other bits on the 69, 1 year only
