Color Code For Red Fan Shroud?

I am detailing my 67 S engine and need some help. Would you experts know what the color code, if any, there is for the red fan shroud? Before I go ahead and start tinting I thought some of you may have this code or, know where to obtain. I tried the 911 Red Book and found nothing. Addtionally, I checked the back of the shroud in hopes that there would be some sort of code but found nothing. The shroud is in okay shape. It has the usual cracks and ships but nothing major. I little fiberglass will fix the small cracks and such. Any help in finding the correct paint code for the fan shroud would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Freddie

There not painted. Use some very fine grit paper, then polish with lots of elbow grease.

There was a thread about restoring these along time ago and I couldn't find it via the search engine.

Bill is correct they are not painted but rather impreganted fibreglass.

I did paint one very successfully but painter just tried to match the colour of the back where less fading had occurred.

Thanks for the help guys. I did find Chuck's write-up on the dye method. Is there anything Chuck does not know I will try this method on the backside and see how things go. Thank you.

Here is the final look on my fan shroud. I added two coats of high temp. chem. resistant to keep clean and from fading. Thanks Chuck for the advise.

    Thumbs up

    Cheers Freddie........

If I were to rewrite this article I would change the ratio to about a 3 to one solution of alcohol to dye, and get the shroud pretty damn intensely red before you polish. With cleaning and the general hot environment the red will fade over time. I've 'touched up' mine once in about 3 1/2 years.
