    Brake Pads

    Hi All,

Just a question to work through my brake pad issue.
    I have a 1972 911S with standard S brake calipers.
After looking around the net and at pelican site which brand is the best go with.I am looking to use my 911 as a daily driver with some possible track days to learn the handling. So the balance would be 95% road 5% track

Which brand to go with and why ?
    Mintex
    Jurid
    Textar
    OEM

please help, I am open to suggestions and reasoning behind the suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

I use OEM Ate for the front S calipers and OEM Textar for the rear M calipers on my 1971 911S. They feel fine to me. They do need to be cleaned up after each drive if you have polished Fuchs.

I will go to PBR Ultimate Ceramics at the next change based on the recommendations of experts for good cold bite, price, and streetable fade resistance.

    Anyone Else

Thanks for your reply, does any one else have any experiences with the previously mentioned brake pad brands ?

Here is a thread I started to decide on my brake pads: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ad.php?t=20173

There are many opinions there. I go with Neunelfer's thoughts and will try the PBR Ultimate Ceramics when these wear out.

I like the Textars. They aren't the dustiest (compared to Ferodo or Pagid) and they don't squeak (compared, again, to Ferodo or Pagid).

ATEs are nice if you can get 'em.

Mintex are, in my opinion, the worst pads I've ever used in a performance car - I cooked a brand new set after one jaunt through the canyons in our 356.

    I'm with Marco...

I've always run Textars with fine results and pretty clean wheels...
I've just switched to Pagid (stock black/ in the blue box) maybe a tick better performance but more dust for sure....

    Hope this helps

I'm brake-biased but I like the Ultimate Ceramics as of late.

Basically, good organic pads like these guys are steering you to are all fairly decent at stopping your car. They can squeak and they can be dusty.

Beware of pads that say they don't squeak. They are generally metallic or semi-metallic. They do not stop as well as organics.

    I'm with Marco too...

Mintex pads S-U-C-K. They're a great way to make $10.00 (out of $20.00)

Textar, ATE, Jurid are all fine. If you're crossing over with a street car and you're going racing or autocrossing I like the Porterfield P4S (as in street) pads.

    Ceramic Pads ?

    Hi All,

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it.

One silly question ? ceramic pads can they be used with the normal brake rotors or do you have to update both at the same time.

Tossing up the idea if ceramic pads work with current rotors where to do this or if I have to update rotor and pads leave for a later date.

What are peoples opinions regarding ceramics, are over kill for street use ?

Or the more stopping power the better

    Cheers

You can use ceramic pads with standard vented (not cross drilled) 911 rotors. Ceramics will be a little more aggressive in wearing the rotor compared to the sacrificial organic carbon pads like Textar, Ate, Jurid. You may replace rotors more frequently than before if you track your car but there will be less pad wear.

Please correct me if I am wrong, Eric

The only thing I would add is... cross-drilled should be fine as well.

These are ordinary pads. They're simply made of a ceramic compound. They're supposed to be quieter, and reduce dust but what I noticed was seat of the pants "bite". So far, I like them best amongst all the $30 pad also-rans.
