    Ring Lap Times

I was CC'd on an eMail from a GM engineer regarding the '09 ZR1 Corvette lap times on Thursday at the Ring (7:26.xx). Apparently, it beat the much-talked about Nissan GT-R by 3 seconds. That was with a GM engineer driving. They thought he might have left 6 seconds on the table compared to what one of the factory ALMS Corvette drivers could do with it.

Anyway, what was interesting is he mentioned that there was a GT3-RS at the test that was running 7:15's They were astounded and described the car as a "racecar for the street". This can't be the normal road-going GT3-RS, can it? Or is Porsche upping the HP for 2009 in the RS?

I hope it was a "plain" GT-3 RS. I saw that the new 911s are getting direct injected motors and picking up some power in the process. It could be the next gen. ; even the 997 version made about 405hp? It was probobly Mr. Bergmeister out for a Sunday cruise....

It could have been a GT3 RS fitted with DFI and either the new double clutch gearbox or a sequential.

OTOH, the Cup S just became available, and it supposedly is much improved and will help the privateers take it to Ferrari. 7:15 is pretty amazing, so I would bet on a Cup S "body in white" without team graphics, etc. on it.

I have a "regular" GT3 (997), I would love to see what a truly skilled driver could do with around the 'Ring... it is a truly amazing car.

Edited to add: the 997 car has 415 hp stock; DFI would put that number > 450.

    - don't know about the GT3 RS, but doesn't the late Stefan Belloff still hold the track record, in a Porsche 956, from way back in the mid 1980s? Pretty amazing!

Of course us mere mortals cannot buy anything new from porsche with the letters GT in it, even if we did have the cash for full sticker . . . .

Belloff ripped up the pavement at the ring at 6:25. A few years ago, I believe that I saw the in car footage and it was mind numbing.

It was so quick that it actually looks as if someone had sped up the film.

Curt, do these lap times count if we use GT4? I did it at 7:00 sec flat on the 'ring the other day in my modded up Ruf (aka 2000 911GT3). I think I tagged one of the armco's only once too...
