    Stoddards Rear Window Rubber Seals Problem

    I am trying to put New rubber seals on the rear Quarter windows on my 67S which is coming close to a complete resto; Unfortunately, the new seals I recieved from Stoddards, just won't go into the narrow grove on my quarter windows , yeah, yeah, I tried the old soap , Wd-40, rubber mallet trick but to no avail, Anybody else have the same problem, with these Stoddard seals, or have a solution; Very, very frustrating;

    Hi Peter,
    I don't think it's Stoddards fault because I purchased a set from another vendor a few years ago and I still can't get them to fit correctly on my 73T.

    But here's something interesting, a while back I purchased a set of early quarter windows (your vintage) and noticed that the window frames are slightly thinner than the window frames on my car. Although I don't believe there are 2 different versions of rubber seals I just feel they are simply too thick to install properly.

    And if you think your having a tough time mounting them on the frames wait until you try to close the quarter windows when the glass is back on the car. The lower part of the rubber is so thick that it rubs up against the lower chrome trim you'll barely get it shut!

    I simply don't open those windows anymore

    I just went through this on my car. The best thing to do is find some good used stuff and meticulously bring it back to life ... seriously.

    Rear Window Seals

    Well last nite I took a metal paint can opener and along with dish wash soap struggled for about 45 minutes and managed to get one window done; The paint can opener idea comes from a previous thread, so i can't take credit for it. It helps to push the rubber down into the frame, by gripping the underneath and pushing it into the frame;, also a rubber mallet, and small block of wood helps, plus some Brutal strength;
    To-nite I tackle window no 2 ; Hope my brutal Strength holds out;
