Good method for cleaning seat tracks

Has anyone come up with a method or a product that works well in cleaning the steel seat tracks on the early cars - especially when the tracks are mounted in place?

Difficult to do with the rails still in place

Why not spend the extra time to pull the seats and rails so you can do a good job? You might end up doing more harm than good if you get cleaning materials on your carpets or seats.

Try a small wire rush to remove any scale or dirt and treat with a rust removal product. You can paint them if you'd like or, if they are really gone, have them replated. Wire brush the hex screws and maybe touch-up the mounting surfaces. A thin coat of grease on the rails and you should be good to go.

    Other ideas?

    cleaning

important use a non staining white or clear grease, specially with a light colored interior, so as to keep from staining your new upholstery!

Pull them out. It's rewarding and not all that difficult. Then you can get them refinished in short order!
