    Steel wheel decipher????

So........planning on running steelies, and as I understand it there are 356 steelies and 911 steelies, the difference being the thickness of the steel. Anyone know the number stamp that tells you? I talked to Harvey about it once, and tried to write everything down (what a wealth of info!) but I'm no stenographer and missed the part about what number to look for. I should be able to go by the date code, but the wheels i'm looking at are real early.

    Thanks in advance
    Dave

The ones that came on my 70 914-6 were stamped "69" in a little square on the back.

So far....two manufactures, KPZ and Lemmerz. Two different sizes, 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 X 15. they seem to have a part number of some kind, and the elusive all telling dot number....the ones I'm looking at are 3.9..these are the numbers that tell the thickness of the steel. If you have steelies on your SWB please take a look at this number, and if you would be so kind, and report back your numbers...

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

Dave- Just checked the steelies original to my '68 912.
they are 5.5x15 KPZ dated 8/67. The only other # is 613 3A.
    does that denote thickness?

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for checking, The thickness number is a number that is like 3.9. Sometimes its in a circle. The 613 3a is something else, the wheels I'm looking at have 605 3A, they are early 66 and late 65 dates. Those may be some kind of production numbers? Sure would like to know..........

All the numbers are stamped on the front of the wheel around the lug holes.

    Thanks for checking...
