    Stainless Steel '67 911S

I thought there should be a thread on this site about this very rust free early 911.

The car has resided at the Deutsches Museum in Munich since 1973 and up to that point had covered, according to the museum, 154,000km over 7 years on the road.

    Thumbs up

Carl, rumour has it that two were built. I've had it in the back of my mind that this would be a great effect to reproduce given some of the very convincing metal looking paints available.

I suppose you could always go to one of those vinyl wrap places and go for the semi-permanent 'chrome' look. That's probably what they've been using at McLaren since '06.

You could powder coat in a finish that looks like stainless too....I have seen race cars powdercoated.

According to Paul Frere's Porsche 911 Story, 3 cars will built in 1967 but two were eventually destroyed in crashes. I saw the third in person at the Deutches Museum and it's really quite stunning.

Cool idea Don, powder coating could really happen. I'm thinking a hand rubbed aluminum finish, or a nickel plate look. Something more subdued than chrome. The shot with the car next to the 507 kills me. Stainless muffler skirt? !!

I saw the car at the Deutches Museum in June of 1970, the week after I toured the factory in Stuttgart. I don't think that it was there when I visited the Museum in June 1967. But then, over the years there is the outside chance that my mind has turned to mush.

Here's another piece I found on the SS '67. From Christophorus No. 115 Feb '75:
