    Durant Mirror

I know the '64, '65, '66 and '67 cars came with a "small" Durant Mirror. Also the '68, '69 cars came with the "larger" Durant Mirror. My '67 (#307347) has a large one on it, any idea when they changed from one to the other? Any other '67s with a large mirror on them?

    Thanks,
    John

    Raj,

How does your Vin # relate, earlier or later?

    Thanks,
    John

Does anybody ever replace the glass in a Durant mirror? How you did it ??

    Thanks

My '67 is 308477 S and according to the CoA it has a June 29, 1967 birthday.

It had a the later Durant on it when I got it. However, my car also has '68 rocker decos so I think it had a cosmetic update at some point. I was about to change it to a small Durant and 67S rocker decos.

I thought the large Durant was MY68 and later having been introduced in order to comply with changing DOT regulations for 1968 registered cars which required a larger glass area.

A MY67 car was not required to comply and I doubt that factory inventory of the small Durant had been exhausted by the changeover...but possible.

Then again, when I got my '68, it had the small Durant (still does). But I know one of the first owners had a number of early cars and may have switched mirrors at some point, so who knows...

The mirror is held by a thin, black plastic ring. You have to carefully remove the ring so that it's not damaged in the process. Once removed, the glass falls right off, replace and reverse.

BTW, this is also the way to adjust the swivel mechanism should it get loose.

    Hope it helps

Raj: This car has a '67 gut: basket weave dash (not elephant hide) and came with '67 sport seats L/R, no headrests. The instruments are the green on black ones, including the optional outside thermometer which has a centigrade scale. It has '67 US seat belts: chrome lift buckles with painted crests. Other options: Blaupunkt Frankfurt (missing), limited slip, Catacolor glass (all) and a Webasto.

I believe the car was delivered to So Cal but so far I do not have any history prior to the early '90s. It certainly has a late build date and the chassis number is later than the enthusiast books specify as being within the 67S range.
