    Impact of gas prices.

    http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/776087111.html

I understand my 2003 Discovery losing $5000 in value over the last 6 months but $25,000 for a 2005 Turbo Cayenne w/ 19,000 miles. I am calculating that to be a $20,000 drop over the same period of time!

Wow. That's some serious depreciation on a $100,000+ vehicle. I wish I needed an SUV

Oh yes. The exhaust from that "engine" is no fun to catch in the face.

I'm not sure if the $25K Turbo is an aberration or what, but it's sure got me thinking! I've got a Dodge Durango Hemi right now, specifically to pull my trailer. It's a decent enough vehicle, 350HP and probably fuel mileage on par with the Turbo (i.e. awful). I only drive it occasionally, so it doesn't really matter, and what choice is there for pulling?

But I loved my Cayenne S so maybe I should dump the Dodge and pick up one of these bargain-basement super trucks

Figures. Well, a better solution to towing a car was proposed to me by Mr. Hyatt recently. His idea is to do a modern take on the M-B Renntransporter. Why tow a trailer or a big motorhome/transporter? Instead, build a vehicle capable of high-performance along with the ability to haul a single car. That way, the drive there can still be fun! I like this idea and have been scanning eBay for potential candidates.

Buy a new hybrid and pay $30,000 for it.
You already own (a paid for) a car that gets 18 mpg. Gas being the same price for either it will be waaay beyond 100,000 miles before you break even.

If you get 10mpg on your hog then it's around 96,000 miles.

O.K. you owe $10,000 on yours. It is still 64,000 until they cross even at 10mpg!

People are getting hosed on hybrids. The new ones are just that; new.

Wait until diesels show up in them and have the best of both worlds.

    More math

My Land Rover Discovery averages 12 mpg on my commute. My savings @ $4.00/gallon per month if I replace it with a car that gets at least 20 mpg or better. I average 20,000 / year.

    MPG Savings
    20 222.27
    25 289.00
    30 333.40
    33 351.00
    40 388.89
    45 407.49

Personnally, I would love a diesel wagon.
