Why No Porsche Love For Paul Newman?

Here's a guy who could be the greatest actor of his generation, one of the greatest actors this country has ever produced. Newman's Own has sold enough popcorn, salad dressing and spaghetti sauce to donate $250 million to various charities. His Hole In The Wall summer camps are free to kids suffering from cancer. His personal race resume is outstanding, including a variety of Porsches, and a second place at LE MANS. The Newman Haas Team has been a fixture in American open wheel racing for years. So what I can't figure out is -- Why is there no apparent interest in any of the many Porsches he previously owned and/or raced? Just wondering...

That Barbour 935 won't be cheap either whenever it sells next.

The biggest part of the value in ex-Newman cars is their race pedigree, while the McQueen cars have been whacked with the cool stamp for the last 35 years.

In the rock-paper-scissors world of old car values, cool stamp trumps race pedigree every time, plus Steve ain't driving any more cars

Newman is a "racer" vs a "Porsche guy". He is held in high reguard among racers, just for the reasons you mention. Racing was a part of his private life and he did not mix it with the movie life. At the track he wanted to be just another racer, part of the race meet, not the center of attention and the other competitors respected that wish. I think that follows today and other racers respect him for his accomplishments and let his resume do the talking.

I think that is the way Paul wanted it and the way he still wants it.

He raced Porsches as well as wharever he felt was competitive.

    73s

Many years ago when I was afraid of old 911's maintainance woes I saw a silver on red 73S reportedly once owned by Paul Newman for sale in Hemmings. The color combination caught my eye more than the provenance and I don't remember a price but hindsite.... oh well.
I grew up in Atlanta watching Paul Newman in his early racing days at Road Atlanta. The first car I remember was a MGB in D Production. He would squirrel away in His Winnebago untill race time and then I would see his car go out with our freinds D Production Alfa.

    Ahhh...a silver on red 911S.

    Thumbs up Great video

If I got all the stories straight....

Those 914-6's came into, and were prepped at, Bozzani Porsche in Monrovia CA.
After this race it took Bozzani's Allan Johnson over two years to sell all of'm off his lot....

There was a longer write up of that 914 celeb race. Maybe in EXCELLENCE? Half way through the race, one of the pro drivers decided to take a detour to shorten the course. Soon everyone was doing it.

Classic Newman. Raising money for charity. Driving Porsches.

I have no idea how Wilt got into that 914. He used to play beach volleyball at State Beach where I hung out in High School. His two designated beach cars -- A convertible Bentley. And that Rabbit sedan he drove in the famous TV commercial. Of course the minor detail they failed to mention in the ad was for Wilt to drive the Rabbit, they had to remove the drivers seat so he could drive from the back seat. But his real vehicular priority was plenty of passenger room for bikini'd babes...

10,000 (or was it 20,000?) or more by his account. Didn't he die from an M.I.? I suppose too much of a good thing is still too much.
