    Paging Mr. Schrager...

    ...YOU HATE 912'S!

Thank you for your ed. on your experiences. We can only WISH to ever drive a 917.

Well you did it again(and always) and not even include the 912 as 'one of the Porsche you must drive' article in the current issue of SCM(20th Ann. issue). What would it hurt to put in a national magazine that is well respected, that the 912 is not that bad?? Lets include almost every model(914 2.0. to the 917!!) and leave out one of the best driving Porsches around. 99.9 of us can only watch the movie 'Le Mans' to 'feel' the 917. How about a realistic view of your best driving experiences, Big Jim. Again, you must finally admit, you totally dislike the 912 and do not want to see or give it ANY credit it is due. Thanks, the article was good other than 'our' the 912 community, issue here.

    THE Porsches' Enthusiasts' Enthusiast

Jim Schrager doesn't need me to defend him, but I will anyway. He is the Porsche enthusiasts' enthusiast. With Jim it's all about an authentic appreciation for Porsches. I'm thankful to have him in our ranks.

    Cheers,

I usually love all his input into the Porsche world(especially 356's). I am not attacking Mr. Jim S. personally. I am sure he is the nicest, coolest, best guy around. He just does not like the 912.
I have owned my '66 912 for 10 yrs and in those years have never read from him anything but a negative(or a void) on the 912. This last article does a good job proving it. Please come clean here. How about an article based ONLY on the 912(and it's not too slow uprising). The 912 community would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you're trying to pump the value you're late. The air has already leaked out to the tune of nearly 12% this year already ('67-'69 Coupe).

The 912 is a neat car, no doubt about it, but it's been the red-haired step-child to the 911 since its inception. It was built as a cheaper alternative to the 911.

That said; I'd own one in a minute. Caveat; Jake Raby's place would be my first stop for some "guts". Then I'd go 911 hunting.

BTW; Jim Schrager needs no defense.

I'm a 912 lover! Sold the '67 911S to send the middle son to college (It was worth more then the 912). Good move, cause the 912, though not as powerful as the 911S, it is just as much fun to drive. It ALWAYS handles better then a vintage 911.

Why anyone would ever have Jake Raby touch their car is just beyond me. He's ruined more 912's with his junky T4 motors then I care to think about. The real value in the cars is to keep them close to stock (Just like any vintage Porsche). Hell, if you want to make a 912 fast, go R-Gruppe and please shove 911 motor in it! The Type 4 is a torquey, rough running, unrefined turd! Porsche made some really smooth 4 and 6 cylinder motors. The T4 belongs in a van!

Jim Schrager loves the 912. I've spent the time talking with him to know. BTW, if not for the decision to build the 912, Porsche may have gone under in the mid sixties. 33,000 912's from '65 - 69 made the 911 possible. That's close to twice as many 912's as 911's! Of course the 911 was a better car, but less affordable and different from the 356. Customers prefered the 356 "D" (912) in both price and simplicity. The 911 became legend and the 912 became the step child.

Great thing is that it's coming around. In this day of the $100,000 911S, we have the $50,000 912. Amazing, but here we are. I'm glad we are all part of the Porsche community. Just don't ruin your Porsche by putting a Volkswagen truck motor in it!

While we are paging Jim Schrager (the most knowledgeable Porsche journalist in the land), I'd like to see the article about the 911SC that he wrote in the recent PCA magazine.

I've been looking for a 1974-1989 Porsche 911, and his opinion may help my decision.

Anyone have a 1988 Club Sport FS?
