technical details: new 997 motor and Porsche Doppelkopplungetreibe

    Interesting engineering developments from Stuttgart:

Direct Fuel Injection, simplified and strengthened mechanicals, and Porsche DoppelKupplungsgetriebe

    Direct Injection and PDK.
I think one journalist summed it up when he commented that he felt sorry for those who would try to sell a used tiptronic now. Even worse had you plunked down money on a 2008 when the 2009 is a vastly superior car. Look for sale prices on leftover '08's and there are plenty around.

The PDK has been around forever, however, they were able to develop it to the point that it has sufficient longevity and is "streetable".
The standard gearbox cannot be "rowed" fast enought to keep up with this gearbox.

I'm sticking with "10,000 B.C." technology myself. "Rocks and spears" can still do damage.

Tom, I think you're exaggerating. The foot-operated clutch and hand shifter is 1800's technology

The next Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection pump...

I don't know how bad they really will be. Porsche engines are rather sophisticated and have tight tolerances but if you allow time and pay attention, you can do it.

All modern stuff is different, though. The mechanicals can be great but the electronics will screw you if they don't have certain friendly boxes to talk to.

Looks like a winner to me. Plus, it will be a lethal track day weapon.

Can't wait for when the turbo/GT3/GT3 RS/GT2 go to direct injection.

Feel sorry for anyone selling any used Porsche built in the last ten years. The depreciation is tragic.

As for rocks and spears? I bring them to the track for every POC event. Against 2008 technology, it's like bringing a squirt gun to an Uzi fight.
