    Old Fuel Gum Up

I thought I would take a moment and show all the results of old fuel sitting in a Bosch fuel pump...so when someone says to you," oh it isn't any big deal leaving that old gas in there for extended periods of time"...well now you will have the proof that is does matter....many a fuel pump is burned up because of this...and fuel lines and screens clogged......the stuff just returns to it's tar like form....look at it on the end of the screw driver and holding up one of the impellers......it is nasty stuff and stinks.....only thing that will remove it is lots of carb cleaner or lacquer thinner.....

i'm told the boating crowd has found that this new ethanol mix stuff goes bad much quicker than the old stuff. not sure if this means gumming up or just 'stale'.

Yep, I just went through a similar pump on my 71 E. Remember to be carful putting the pump back together...they are somewhat "tunable" by moving the top plate back and forth while pumping fluid through.
