    100 liter steel tank questions

    I just found a 100l steel tank in great condition and have a couple of questions:
    - What was the correct paint scheme? Color codes and if the bottom was covered with undercoating is the information I am looking for. If undercoating was applied, what was the correct border between paint and u/c?
    - Does anyone know a source for the long sender unit?
    - Finally we had some discussion about the last MY the steel tank was used in European cars.

    I have used the search function but was not able to find conclusive information, so your input is much appreciated.

    Cheers

    100 Ltr; Tanks

    If you happen to find any more 100 Ltr Gas tanks lying around, I could use one for my 67;

    Yup, that's where I looked in the first place. Unless I have missed it, all pics show the tanks' upper sides from which I gather that consensus points to black, but which kind of black?

    @Peter,
    granted, next one I "bump into" I'll let you know Seriously, they are very rare and pricey over here, too.

    So far it seems that they were indeed matte or semi gloss black above, underseal below the seam. The matte vs semi gloss question was one I was hoping to find an answer to.

    To everybody who has replied by PM or post so far: many thanks!

    Here the pics of my tank. It will undergo dipping and paint in the next few weeks. Based on recommendation it will not be coated on the inside.

    According to feedback the paint scheme will be semi gloss black above, undercoat below the lip. I hope to have managed to find a source for a replica sender unit in Germany, confirmation pending.

    Last but not least, any insight on until which MY the 100l tanks were used for race cars?

    Cheers

    The steel 100L was used for 67 and 68. They were always not undercoated on the bottom either. I have had a few and some were coated some not. Hope this helps.

    I have a friend who had a large optional tank in a 356 and he said it made the handling atrocious until it got down to about half full. Seems odd to me, given the tail happy nature of Porsches, but that's what he says.

    My question is - how does a full 100L tank in a SWB 911 change its handling? I'm sure it changes it given all that extra weight in the front, but does it change for better or for worse? Or just different and you adjust your driving for it?

    Could you go ahead and remove the lead weights from inside the front bumpers?

    Thanks,
