Rear Window Trim, The Wrong Way

I recently got my 72T Targa back from a paint shop on the west coast (I live in Atlanta) where they neglected to install the rear chrome window trim when they installed the window. I know that this piece needs to be installed prior to the window, but I'm wondering if anyone knows any trick to install the trim with the window in place?

I've tried using soap and "pushing" the trim into place. I also tried putting a chord into the groove and then "pulling" it out while pressing the trim into place, but that didn't work either.

I'm about to the point of cutting away most of the rear aluminum "catch" and just glueing it into place with black silicon. I know I'll need a new window seal anyway if I take out the window and I might as well buy new trim pieces at that point, because these are rather scratched anyway and were bent when removed.

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Your best bet might be to just remove the rear window

Don't beat yourself up and or chop up your car. Remove the rear windshield, replace the missing trim sections and return the window. The trim will go in with the window out and replacing the window isn't that bad.

Call around to glass companies if you don't want to do it......there should be some old-school dude that'll do it.......probably won't cost too much, worth the money in my opinion.

    Thanks

Thanks, You guys are right. After a good nights sleep and cleaning the dish soap off my car I decided to go ahead buy some new trim (back ordered right now), remove the window, and do it right.

    Thanks,

    Joe

You're a good man Charlie Brown!

Stick with it! Often times it feels like one step forward and two steps back.

It IS worth it in the long run.
