    A sad day...

I last saw him at the fabulous Fifties gathering in May here in LA. He was in a wheelchair and did not look well. Parkinson's disease had done it's worst...

    Vaya Con Dios...

    Maybe a more fitting picture....

Phil Hill waving to the crouds after winning the 1957 Grand Prix of Venezuela sports car race with Peter Collins in a Ferrari 335 S.

    From the Burnside 'American Racing'

The first time I watched Hill race was 9 years later in the '66 Times Grad Prix at Riverside, driving the Chaparral 2E.......

It took me a while to find this photograph. Here's how I remember Phil Hill. I took this photograph at the Nurburgring in August 1967 where he was driving the Chaparral 2F for Jim Hall. I was a youngster then and was so in awe of being in the presence of America's only world driving champion up to that point in time. Thanks to Zithlord for his help in allowing me to resize slides that I have scanned.

In the 50s Hill was my father's neighbor in Santa Monica. I used to hear stories about Phil driving his Bat Wing MG through the neighborhood. Godspeed Phil.

I found a few more photos that I took at the 'Ring in 1967 at the 1000Km. race in August. The Chaparral 2F that Phil drove and a few shots of a very youthful Jim Hall.
