What are the odds that it was sold to a Russian? When you spend $750 million on a villa, what's $30 million?

Indian, Russian, Chinese or American -- it's always a good time to be a card carrying member of the Super Rich. This sale makes the guy who paid $10M for Coburn's Ferrari seem like a bargain-hunter.

Big money buyers will always be able to spend big money. External economics have no sway. If you someone has that kind of money and wants something badly enough, you get sales like these. IMHO, sales like these (ultra rare race cars/huge money) are so far out of the norm that taking a reliable temperature of the vintage sports car market is pretty big stretch.

Monterey was good to the sellers of open 356's, either soft top, or sunroof:

    62 Roadster (twin grille), $170K
58 Speedster non match engine, $170K
55 Pre A Speedster, non engine match, $167.5
    58 Speedster, #'s match, silver/red, $258.5 (not a 4 cam car....)
    60 Roadster, Rudge wheels, $170.5
    65 SC Cab, $143K
    65 S/R coupe, $139K
    58 A rally look Coupe, also S/R, $130K

    68 912 Softie, $35K
    68 S, discussed here earlier, $86K

Good on him if he sold it for that price, but I'm skeptical. The boss has the 48 Barchetta that took Le Mans that year, and thinks it's worth half that with its pedigree. He'll never unload it, but enjoys the speculation on the value.

    Okay

That would be the car to get there. I wonder if Nick Mason still has his GTO?
