Engine bay - Should it be sprayed?

I Have a 72 Coupe. Car is having a baremetal repsray. I heard somewhere that it was not until '73 that the engine bay was sprayed same as exterior of car. Is this correct?

    Thanks

    Engine comp:

72 satin/flat black, over body color, over undercoating, over primer.
73 body color, over undercoating, over primer.

The black paint I belive was brushed on.

If you use the search function for " engine compartment color " you will find lots of treads on this subject.

Does this mean that for a 1970 S that the engine bay would be black?

    Thanks,

    Thanks Zithlord.

A great help. Many (car people) have told me that the bay should be the color of the car. Most did that, I believe as the car is concours and it was their way of attempting to dis-credit it as that was the only item they could point out.

I feel sorry for the next expert that goes down that road.

    regards,

Mudi; I suspect that the black in your picture is quite faded/dried out and that the original was Satin. I base this on color movie and photos from the factory in the early 70's.

    not quite...

it will look too nice if sprayed -- that isn't factory

to be TRULY CORRECT, you must light BRUSH the black on, not spray it; and you must allow some of the Schutz underneath and some of the body color paint paint to show thru

this is best achieved by doing it the exact same way the factory technicians did -- have a couple of beers for lunch and then hang your bratwurst filled belly over the rear support and swing away drunkenly with a very lightly pigment loaded brush
