    73 S performance

So I was out driving my S yesterday a little more aggressively than normal. On hard 1 to 2 shift tires spun quite a bit and on a 2-3 upshift tires chirped. I owned quite a few S's but never noticed that they do that. Maybe it's because it's a Targa and the noises are more obvious maybe it's just the tires. Is this normal for a stock S.
    Thanks,
    Phil

That motor is a KEEPER !!!!! Hard to get a 3.2 hotrod to breakem loose in 1-2, 2-3 in a 2.4 is incredible

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

Tire chirp would also be directly related to the tire type and size. A hard 185 is easy to chirp going into 2nd (3rd...not so much) and a sticky 225 or larger would be a different story. I never had any trouble breaking the rears loose when I had my 3.2 in a 73 911. That car would nearly go sideways when hitting second hard.

The tires are new RE71 205/60 Bridgestones. I forgot to ad I live at 4500 ft so I'm loosing about 10% of the motors HP and motor is not tuned to run at 4500 ft. I had a 72 Coupe with only 40K miles on it with crappy 185's that didn't do this at sea level. I had to run through gears twice since I couldn't believe what happened the first time. Now I have a twin plug 3.5 L that gets sideways even with 345's and limited slip but I just didn't expect the 2.4 to behave that way. I should ad that motor is basically brand new. I'll have to drop the engine builder a line and see if it's all stock.

Rev it up and anything's possible.

But you might want to contact a transaxle rebuilder if you keep driving it like that.

I don't buy these things to drive em like they are oldsmobiles, if I got to go through tranny every now and then it's just part of the deal. I wasn't being abusive just driving in a spirted manner. Thought for a minute that I was driving my wife's 1970 LT1 Corvette.

Where did you find them? I thought Bridgestone quit making them several years ago.
