    Please be aware that playing "chemist" by adding additional ZDDP to a current oil has some unintended consequences.

    High Zn & P levels have one drawback: the tendency to clog ring lands and prevent them from rotating. Lubrication engineers add a special detergent package to such products that will be left in the engine for extended drain intervals to keep things clean so additional ZDDP must be balanced with Ca, Na, and sometimes Mg.

    Some high ZDDP race oils such as non-street legal Valvoline VR-1, Joe Gibbs race oils, and Redline race oils are meant to be changed after each event. Others, such as Brad Penn and Swepco, can be left in the engine for 2K-4K miles.

    Those of us who build engines do use a ZDDP enhancing additive for initial engine start and dyno runs to protect all those new parts during the first, very critical, hours of operation. I don't recommend using such things anymore since there are now some excellent, albeit someone inconvenient, engine oils to use in your motor.
