Ever heard of a "911 TE" on a COA?

I have a friends PCNA issued C.O.A. for her car and it reads:

    Model Year/Type: 1973 911 TE COUPE

It's a CIS car, not MFI (deliv. date: 7/1/73)

It does not appear to have any "E" equipment on it, but having A-B'd this car a couple years ago against my wife's 20k mile showroom '72T ....it was noticably faster.

So my question is, what exactly is ment by the notation "TE" as it's model designation?

    Thanks !!

The 'E' refers to 'Einspritzung' meaning injection, so the 911T-E nomenclature was used to denote the 1972/3 US-spec 911T 2.4 mfi model & the '73.5 2.4 911T CIS model.

ah-ha... So the CIS is the reason the Einspritzung badging was assigned. Makes sense.
I should have thought of that, but I was looking beyond...complete oversight, and it was right under my nose !!!

Whoa, you two have my head swimming now, Johnny you state it is a CIS car, but Andy says TE would indicate the MFI car (which I would agree with) So Johnny, is that car you mention a CIS or a MFI ?

Hi Ed, It is a CIS car....most definitely.

The way I understand Andy is that The COA's for MFI '73 T's are labeled as 911 T
and the COA's for the CIS powered T is labeled as "TE"

Einspritzung means injection, not specifically MFI. The 2.4 911TE designation is for CIS cars as opposed to the 911TV (Vergaser) models with carburetors.

Okay Mike, I like your interpretation, since technically both CIS and the pulsed, plunger type injection are a mechanical type injection as opposed to the carburetor system the TE would have been used in both cases. See, I knew there would be a simple explanation. Hmmmn, sounds like tech quiz fodder for next year....

Thanks Mike for the specific's....now let me see if I can break it down for my own understanding...

The 2.4 911TE designation is for CIS.....

The 2.4 911TV desigation is for carburetors....

And per Ed's interpetation above 2.4 911T MFI cars also show as TE on their COA?

    Thanks !!

If you look at my original reply it explains that the term Einspritzung refers to both forms of injection - mfi & CIS - so both the '72/'73 US-spec (mfi) & the '73.5 US-spec (CIS) 911T models utilised the 911 T-E nomenclature.
