    901/01 engine; 1964 casting, 900631

This is a correction to previous post here.

I had bought this to build a race engine..but as its so early, I'm sure someone here needs this.

I was told it was 632..but as you can see its actually 631 in the first production.

Solexes, centre feed cams etc..all except the original exhaust, which has been changed to the later style..

I'll sell it all together or split it.

    Its in the UK..

    Kind regards
    David

How could this engine be a 64 build? These two cars from early 65 have confirmed engine numbers:

    VIN300233 engine 900347
    VIN300238 engine 900373

    It's not 64 build but 64 casting.

So what do 64 casting mean? Was there a later casting used in the later 65 models? When did the 64 casting end in production. I am putting this info into the 64/65/66 list.

    John,

I am not an expert in this field but the casting numbers and in this case date are casted in when the parts that the engine consist off (or car in general) are produced. So it's very likely that for an early 65 the parts were made in 64, like you were probably 'casted' 9 months before you were born

    Re price.

    Hello Chuck.

I guess this depends on what folk want all 'n all.

Just the case, or more, longblock, or complete..

happy to post here to specific requests,..obvioulsy the main point is to make known this early case number has surfaced!..

    Kind regards
    David

David how much for the complete engine? Is it complete enough to plug and drive?

    Regards,

    Hello, Richard.

No, not turnkey..its apart and is 99% complete right now..though I have offers on some parts its all still available..

I have a set of correct early Solexes at Harry Bieker's right now being renewed..

I'd personally want to replace pistons bearings valves guides etc for reassurance sake....crank and centre feed cams forged rockers etc are fine...

But I guess many would just do a normal valve job and re-ring and hone..

It looks right now that I'll be splitting it...no-one has spoken up for the case, which is the main purpose of my post..so I'll let it lie for now..no point selling it unless for the right car..

For sure someone will be grateful when they want to put the correct motor back into their Jan '65 car..

I'd value the case alone at $2000....seem about right to you?

    Kind regards
    David
