    Production Number Question for 1211859

I have a 71T that was built on 3/71 with VIN# 9111121839 and production number 1211859. Anyone have a car that is close to that production number? What information can one gather from a build number, just when in the MY production the car was scheduled? Or that maybe other members' cars were on the production floor when yours was? Can the knowledgeable members here give me some clarity on this issue? Thanks.

I have an early 71T built on 10/70, 9111100430, but I am not sure how I would find the production number. Anyone help with that? My CoA is on its way from PCNA, will it be listed there?

It will not be on the CoA. Remove the right knee pad, the p number is stamped into the sheet metal of the dash.

Lots of treads about this, use the search function.

    Scott,

The '2' in the VIN and Prod # indicates a Karmann build chassis, but you probably already knew that.

    john talked about this:
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=hidden+number

    I have a 71T too.
    VIN 9111101037.
    Engine 611 1743
Must be built between 10/70 and 12/70.
Swiss import papers/"Wagenkarte": Dealer delivered Jan. 27th 1971. Sold July 7th.1971.

What I learned is that chassis/prod/engine numbers are not always "logic" i.e. cars could come off the production-line for various reasons (finish corrections, engine, follow-up after final test-run etc.) and then would been re-introduced into the regular factory production-line process.

I did not know that the 2 in the production number was for Karmann Coupe. Thanks Brian. I did know that for the VIN#, though. It would be kinda cool to see if any members' cars were "on the line" the same time as mine was. Interesting how they didn't number the cars the same with VIN's (1839) and production (1859).

The 911E.org site lists the cars chronologically. I found that Bob Aines' new car (ex-Ed Mayo) 69E Coupe is one VIN# less than mine (53 versus 54) making them very early MY cars. Kinda neat. I think it would be great if we could gather all the known chassis numbers and put together a database of cars/owners/locations/condition/photos. This could be a reference document on this site. Would love to do it, but wouldn't know where to begin. I guess if that old 911S site were still up, that might be a good start.
