This AWD Sierra Cosworth looks fairly serious
there is a 1965 911 with flares like that around the place? Why do that to a 65 when there are so many lwb's around?

Curt you shoud ask Aaron about TNF he has some good stories.
Karl, back in the day nobody thought about it, it was just a donor tub to go racing and you built it to the rules of the time and class.
Really? I'll definitely ask. I actually looked into this event a few years back not knowing what it was all about. It is some serious racing! Way more than I could possibly commit to. There is some sort of 'touring class' too, but that didn't seem like much fun.Originally Posted by boba

Frank and his brother Dan's Four Star Motorsports built the Open class winning JCW MINI Cooper S for Jim Kenzie MINI Canada, that cleaned up in 2006 targa Newfoundland. Although I've owned two urquattros and on my 9th Audi quattro my metal in this years targa is still on Jim's winning MINI Cooper S combination...

Actually, Touring class is an absolute blast! It's basically a TSD rally on heavy steriods - same wild (closed) roads as the full-blown race version, with speed limit of "only" 85MPH! I've run it twice, both times in 356s, and their lack of power makes it a whole lot of fun - the really powerful cars slow down for the turns and then make up time on the straights, but if you don't have the horses it means never slowing down at all if you have to meet an AVERAGE speed of about 70 MPH over very wild terrain! Not for the faint-hearted. At one point last year, we came over a crest at over 80MPH into a high wind, and the flat bottom of the 356 turned it into an airplane temporarily. My wife who is not at all interested in cars or motorsports was my navigator, and she pronounced it her "best holiday ever. Period." (and this woman is seriously well-travelled - rates TN even higher than her month-long hiking/camping adventure in Africa).
By the way, that little 356C cab just sold in Monterey for $105,600!
Well, based on your report maybe I need to take another look at that touring class. My wife is a non-car person as well, although she loves to travel and would get into the navigator role on something like that.
