Thread: Source for undersized flywheel main seal?

Source for undersized flywheel main seal?

I've got a relatively small leak from my main seal that has already been replaced once recently. I am hoping that I can eliminate the problem with an undersized one but they are NLA. Guaranteed not leaking from the outside edges. Does anyone know of a source out there?

    Thanks,

I never knew they had undersized fly seals? However what is probably wrong is that you have a groove worn in the flywheel from the seal and a new seal will not help. You need to cut the seal just enough to clean it up or get a flywheel without a groove.

Source for undersized flywheel main seal?

If you have a groove worn in the flywheel on the seal area, you can repair it by installing a ready made sleeve available at bearing supply stores. It is a thin stainless steel sleeve available in a variety of diameters. It gives the seal a brand new surface to run on.

Second on what Ed said. Stoddard's sells these kits. They do work. Had a oil leak in the rear main. After replacing the main seal several times with no luck. It was decided that it was either a mag case weeping(75 RS Euro motor with mag cases) or a worn crank. It was hard to imagine it was the crank since it was checked by the machine shop before assembly. However the sleeve seems to have done the trick. If I get a chance today I will try to look up the kit in the Stoddard's catalog.
