SC and RS Rear Fender Flares

I have been trying to understand the difference is the RS and SC rear fender flares and the manufacturing methods.

Looking at the PET it seems that the RS rear fender flare was only available as a weld in part and that complete rear quarters were not pressed.

Does this mean that the genuine RS was produced from a narrow bodied shell with the flares welded in ?

The outer rim of the SC flare is a differnet shape to the RS and I think that these panels were made as complete quarters and that the flare was not available as a weld-in piece.

Looking at early Turbo it seems that both front and rear were available as weld in parts.

Does any one know the complete story about RS/SC Carrera 3.0/Early Turbo.

    Thanks

    Chris

At the ime the RS was made there were only narrow bodied cars available. The SC is made from a full pressing as at that stage all cars had at least that width flare and it was economical to do so.

The same logic applied with the turbo. The limited run of turbo bodies did not warrant full pressings and they were welded to the SC part.

Looking from the side of the car the radius of the curve is different between the SC and RS and the lip profile is different.

When I last enquired the RS flares were still available from the factory.
    Cheers

    RS Fender Flares

    Thanks,

I have checked with Porsche and the following parts are listed as available from Germany:

911.503.607.00 and 911.503.608.00 and these are indeed 1972 RS Weld-in flares.

There is, however, a booby trap as the above part has been superseded and Porsche now supply a weld-in part with the same arch profile as a Carrera 3.0 which is very similar to the SC flare when the above part numbers are ordered.

    Back to the drawing board.

Check with Pelican, or Mike or Paul at Stoddard's they should be able to tell whats what with the supperseeds on the falres. With that said I have a set of the SC flares on the 71 car. The arch ridge is the same as the standard front wheel arch. If anybody else is interested, I do have a set of rear quarters off a SC that I would let go cheep! I was going to use them on the 73 car but have decided to go in a diffrent direction.

    RS Flares

I am certainly keen to buy 1972 RS flares but they are different to all of the later cars and I haven't yet seen anything with the correct profile.

I have a single genuine RS flare and it is quite different to the 74 on flares, the Carrera 3.0 and the SC.

It looks as if we will have to try to convert an SC flare.
