Thread: Heat Exchangers Steel Or Ssi?

    Heat Exchangers Steel Or Ssi?

I am about to purchase a new pair of MFI heat exchangers.

I do not know whether to purchase the OEM steel type or the aluminum SSI
    exchangers.

Does anyone have experience with this and are there positives and negatives associated with both?

    Thanks for the help.

I can not think of a reason to not go SSI's.

    John,

The SSI's are not aluminum, they're stainless steel...

Hope this helps with your decision ...

I've heard that some people prefer the sound of plain steel vs. stainless. Can anyone comment on the aural distinction of the two?

My SSI always sounded like a Saxaphone to me?

I have had Danske SSIs on my 2.7 MFI for 4 years and am very happy with them. I can't comment on pitch or tone, since I went with the single out sport. It's a bit more throaty (but not boomy or droney) , which fits my boy-racer DNA, but realize its not for everyone. At the track I have had a lot of positive comments on it tho

You can't go wrong with SSIs if you want durability and good looks, but everyone has their own preference.

SSI it is. Thanks for the feedback. They are rather expensive and I did not want to make the wrong choice. Chuck, thanks. I meant stainless, but lost my thought at that time.

I would rather use SSI over Dansk. It Seems everyone is very happy with the SSI product.

I would love to install the twin pipe sport exhaust, but I do not like the way the driver side cutout stands out where the exhaust tip comes out. Maybe I will get over that and go with it. I have the two 356's and both have the twin pipe sport exhaust. It looks very cool and sound fabulous. Anyone have experience with this?
