    Early 72 Owners

My (external) oil cap is identical to my gas cap, both in looks and how it attaches. I have a sticker on the inside of the door that says OIL. Does your cap say OIL in raised letters? Or is it plain? I have seen such caps, but when I get them they attach differently than mine.

I am almost positive my says OEL is raised letters. My serial # is 9112300026, so it is a very early 72S

I don't know if this helps since you asked specifically about early '72s, but this is off my June '72 build car.

My '73 had "710" stamped on it's oil cap until I left it inthe engine room and the fan blade ate it. The replacement is plain and does not contain the 710 stamp.

Raj; you oil door needs some allen's... My mid year '72 is the same as everyone elses; I would say that the sticker on the oil door is factory? but the oil label on the cap might have been a dealer "recall"/fix item.

    RAJ:
The picture of the gold car with the cap with the sticker is from my January 1972 production car(0518). I have owned the car since 1979 and the 2 stickers have always been on it. Does anyone have a nice original cap that they would be willing to sell? Mine was attacked by a set of pliers.

    Oil cap & sticker

My 72S was purchased from the original owner - never restored. It has both the cap with OIL in raised lettering & the sticker inside the flap.

    Raj,

Andrew is referring to the 'Allen headed cap screws' that hold the oil door hinge to the inner fender. It looks like you have hex head bolts holding yours....

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers
