Highest asking price ever for a 912?

This looks a very pretty 1965 Porsche 912 (3-gauge) with classic color combination, it's just the asking price of $72,000 that rocked me back a bit.

    It's also on Samba at:

Looks like standard deco to me...

WOW though, talk about fishing for a price! 72,000!!!

It is a nice looking car though, early three guage dash, nice white with red interior and all.

    Downright cheap!

This car, though the site says not for sale, is advertised in the current issue of Classic & Sports Car for $200,000!

Never heard of a 912 prototype but always eager to learn.

Simple question from a newbie - did some of the early 912's come with a painted dash as opposed to the stainless trim? I kinda like the looks of the painted dash front - adds a bit more simplicity and cleanliness to the whole look.

Yes, the really early 912s have a painted dash with 3 gauges. I looked at one (supposedly a 1965 titled as a 1966, build number something around 230) in my area before getting my 911.

A holdover from the 356 days.

They soon went to the five gauges and blacked out dash. Likely cheaper to Manufacture just one dash as opposed to both, strictly speculation on may part....

This 196? 912 is soooo mucked up. With a vin like that, if it is real, then it could be some type of prototype. So many things have been ruined on this car it is a shame. However I have seen this before. I bought a "1970 911" off a guy on craigslist. It was really a early 1965 911 with a 1970 body on it - picture of that car below in red.

That 912 is awefull with the Long wheel base fenders and so many careless mods. But hey, that is the way people treated 912s over the years. It would not surprise me if the factory discarded a 912 prototype and the records that went with it. The seller is doing the right thing by not selling it until they find out what it is, good luck.

The car should have a washer bottle on the inner passenger side fender in the trunk. Non adjustable struts. A damper on the rack and pinion, dash was painted body color, a few 356 parts such as shift knobs, seat belts, gauges, interior trim material, radios, colors. The vin plate is in the right location.

So much has been modified that it is hard to tell what is left. I would figure $100k to restore it. Then what? You have the first 912 ever made? The first 911 would be worth what? a million? at least. Of course who has the balls to go for it and see what the end up with. Would it be worth it. Maybe, maybe not.

All you would be buying is a vin number. you would need another car to steal the body from.

That VIN tag is cool on the 6? Indicating both the 912 and the 356B. If its real that alone could be worth good $$.
