Thread: 72 front hood texture?

    72 front hood texture?

    i'm starting my repaint.
my old hood had a textured black undercoating on the underside, inside the frame.
the car was repainted, but i see no sign of the original color on the hood.
i think it might be a replacement hood.
    i've stripped to bare metal
    so....
    what's original for a 72?
    plain underside or textured center?
it looks like john's (zithlord) hood has a fine texture that is painted over in body color.
    thanks

Mine is textured and painted the color of the car. I've often wondered, what is that texturing and what is its purpose?

i can only imagine it is some kind of sound deadener.
its a big flat metal surface, i'm sure it would make a racket in the rain!
    thanks guys

    I agree with Bob.

The resonant frequency of a flat surface vs. a textured one would be much more pronounced and probably irritating. The vibrations that create sound waves would be disrupted by the textured surface.

That being said, I'm not sure of their (Porsches') reasonning.
    BTW, my 71' has it.

I thought that additional to the resonation reason that it was the same as the fender area, and gave protection from loose objects in the trunk from staring the top paint work.
