Hey Tony, What is the fabric weight generally used for automotive interiors? I have been looking at some of the Irish Tartan fabric web sites and am wondering what is suitable for automotive use. I see light weight fabrics in the 7-8 oz. range and 13 oz. for the heavy weight range. Is fading a problem with 100% wool. I really like the interior pictured here.

Any idea who's car that is I too had that photo on my comp and I've been building my 72 911 around a few pictures of that car, I wanted to do that exact exterior color with the same plaid in that picture. I have been scouring for material similar yet no luck yet, I have a couple sample requests on their way I will let you know if it's any good.

If you find anything out will you let me know! :

I don't know who owns the car, like you I've had it stored on my computer, looking for a source. I'd like to get my sport seats and door panels done in that fabric, with no luck so far. Here is the reply from Southbound interiors England.

"Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately we can not supply this material, which, incidentally, has richer colours when new. The code number for the original cloth is 999 551 031 40 400 and it is known as check Madras in English, Madras Karo in German."

If we could get an original sample we could get it reproduced, I know some of suppliers take custom orders, cost and minimum order are unknown.
I would have interest in having a run made if others would split the cost. Assuming, cost and quantity are not prohibitive.

Custom order 6-8 weeks, 150yd minimum, cost approx 70.00 per yard. Any one know how many yards needed for seats, door panels?

Hi Rob, That is a gorgeous car! The fabric is beautiful. Unfortunately, the people I buy my fabric don't have the Madras fabric you see here. 150 yard minimum is quite a bit considering we need 1.5 yards to recover 1 pair of seats. Also, I am not sure of how many would need it. There are only so many orange cars... you know. You may want to ask if they can do a smaller run. If so, I would go in on 10 yards. Anyway, let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I do have material suitable for automotive. All material will fade somewhat even if they have the UV protection even on the 100% wool, which is material that I would recommend. Let me know if you have any other thoughts or questions.

Well if you were to order some you could 100% count me in for 4 yards, that is all I would need for the seats, and door panels, that is probably more than enough but I would love to find and get that material as well. You could probably do a hundred cars with that much material so I would imagine it's probably not going to happen ..

I would be up for splitting the cost with you if we could find an cheaper alternative?

    Thanks and let me know.
