67S factory weight savings? How and where?

I've read from several sources (cheap books, magazines, etc.) that a 67S is supposedly lighter than a 67N. I can't figure out where the factory would've saved weight so I am assuming this is probably misinformation.

    Or is it somehow true?

Just curious and not finding it on the search function.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Factory lists both 67N & 67S @ 1080 KG.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

That's what I thought. I found the reference of 154lb weight savings for the S in a book by Patrick Paternie "Porsche 911". Didn't think it could be right given the similar construction, etc. of the cars.

so a 67S weighs 2376lbs according to factory literature? Seems lighter than that when I push it around my garage...

    Thanks for the info

Rally kit buyers had the "bumper refinforcements" (read iron weights)
deleted. I think these weighed 10kg.

Do Fuchs weigh less than steelies? They were standard on the S and
    optional on the normal.

    '69 911S was 995 kg [coupe]

but why was it lighter than other std. models?

it had MFI, which is heavier than carbs
it had 6" Fuchs?, which are heavier than the Mag gas burners

    - so where were the wt. reductions?

    Wink same chassis, same weight....

My understanding was that all chassis were exactly the same whether 912, 911T, E, or, S...

    1969 serie B:
-(all models) crankcase cast in magnesium alloy rather than aluminium
-(all models) transmission housing in magnesium
-S brake calipers made in light alloy rather than cast-iron
    -S w aluminum engine cover
    -S, E models w biral cylinders and T w cast iron

-S brake calipers made in light alloy rather than cast-iron
but if it goes w/ vented rotors the brake set up might be more.

Also do S models have rear sway bars which add a few lbs?

what other 901 trans. had mag case?
surely the typ 911 in '70 weighed more...

re the mag crankcase, when did that start?
the 2.2L motors also had mag cases but maybe they had heavier cranks(?) -- i can never keep straight when they bored the motors vs. when they stroked them...

and when did al calipers start?

-1968 911T models had heavier camshaft rockers than E, S.
-MY 1969 911 models started with mag cases.
-Having the transmission housing in magnesium (MY mid1969) saved 11kg/24lb alone.
-The 70T still had cast-iron calipers, while E ,S (since 67) had alloy.
