Guage of Muffler Skirt -- Advice needed

Hey I am about to tackle a project that will tax my abilities. but I figure for about $400 bucks of Stainless and lots of Cursing, I can make a repo Muffler Skirt.

Finding the stainless sheets and pics iof an original skirt s not a big deal. I will make a template and work from that.

My question is what guage of stainless should I use. My one big problem is that I might be limited to a 48" sheet max. I am still looking for a sheet that is larger. I am thinking a 16 Guage thickness should put me in the ball partk. If I can get by with an 18 Guage, that might be easier to work with

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

    Thankd for the info

This really helps a great deal. And it even makes getting the longer sheets easier. I hopefully will make some jigs so these can be pumped out for others on the board. It will take me a while to figure this out, but I am obsessive compulsive. I own an early 911 after all, and I am bit by the bug.
