    I think it's a 356 plate turned upside down.

That radio/plate was pretty standard for the day. I used to have a bunch of old radios I pulled from Mercs and BMWs in Germany and they all looked pretty close to that. I don't know if that is a Becker or Blaupunkt.

    Raj,

Scroll down to the bottom of this page...

My dad was a VW/Porsche importer in the 60's and 70's. We owned many type 3 VW's including a red Type 3 Ghia like pictured in this link. I think we still even have a couple of the radio installation kits pictured!

I was surrounded by this type of stuff as a kid, so the memories of it stuck pretty well.

    regards,
    Eric

    Raj,

Yes, It follows that because there are separate installation kits for each model that the basic unit would be the same.

Further, my father still has a blaupunkt display unit for a basic frankfurt from approx 1967. He showed that to prospective customers when taking orders for whatever vehicle he was selling. He then had a stock of the installation kits for the vehicles he was selling most.

    regards,
    Eric

    Becker Faceplate

    Eric:

Do you recall what was included in the installation kit for Becker radios?

I have a Becker Mexico TR to use in a 67 which came equipped with that model. However, the unit I have came out of a Benz so the faceplate etc. is MB stuff.

Anyone have a pic of a Becker in a SWB car?

    Thanks,

    Raj,

I'll take a pic end of next week (at cabin now, and heading to NY on Mon). It's a smallish wooden unit that has a Frankfurt installed, and then underneath that has a bracket for the "Derby" removeable radio, which we also have. On top of the unit is a speaker for a 356 C/SC, and then a correct 356 C/SC antenna w/ a blue tip. It's all done in Mahogany.

    Flunder,

I don't think we ever had a Becker installation kit from my memory.
That's a GREAT radio you have!!! I'd love to have a Mexico... no pics from me, but I would think that someone has to have one.

    Becker Install

    Raj:

Found this image of a Becker Europa in a 68L. It has an interesting face plate and trim plate.

    Becker Install

    Raj:

Thanks for the post of the universal face plates for Becker.

Here is the early Becker Mexico TR that was sourced for 305637S. This is the CoA correct model of radio for the car.

This example has hard plastic set-screw knobs and a typical MB pinstripe face. Push buttons are LMKUQ - what is the use for Q?

Do you think this Mexico TR would have been installed with the MB style pinstripe face plate or with the universal face plate?

    Thanks for the help.
