Anodized Door Frames - Hardware Problem

I had Marcos, at King Of Trim, re-anodize all of the bright dip trim pieces and door frames for my 1969 S. Their workmanship and the results were excellent. The price was $1,000 but all of the pieces I sent him were in very good condition. One problem during assembly which I had was the threads of the captive nuts on the door frames were no longer usable because the acid dipping process had etched them. I have one solution which may be of interest to the Registry. A photo album can be found at:

Also shown in the album are photos of some of the tricks the factory used for fitting the quarter glass seals into the frames.

Anodized Door Frames - Hardware Problem

Tom, maybe I'm missing something here, but I just knock out the splined captive nuts before plating, then reinstall afterwards.

Ed, you have the advantage of having "been there". The unsuspecting, me, restorer who has not, would never anticipate this problem. Your suggestion is absolutely the best method, if you know what will happen if you don't.
    Thanks, Tom

    Hi Tom,

As Ed says it is easier to remove all the steel items before any re-furb takes place. Just put an M8 bolt in the thread and knock all the sunken threads out.

I am not 100% sure but adding an additional nut on the inside of the lower section of the frame may prevent the door glass from fully going down.
