911 r rims and wheel spacers

    Hello, fellow 911 S friends:

I just received the 7 R rims back from Al Reed. He is a great guy and did a fabulous job on the paint and polishing.

I am about to mount these rims to the Michelin XWX 185/70/15 tires and wondered if I have to us any wheel spacers. Yes, I am super excited to get them on the car.

If anyone knows about this, please give me a hand.

By the way, I went to the store yesterday to purchase a toaster and as a free gift they gave me a bank. They claim the toaster is worth much more.

They are going to be a hard fit....

But, if you pull out the fenders a little, shave the upper shock bump stops, and use about an inch of spacers they should fit on the 65 SC just fine....show us pics when you're done!

Hester has the 911R wheels. When she was wearing 185/70's, she was fitted with 26mm spacers. (Hester is a 1970 911S).

    Here is the update.

7R rims on Michelin XWX 185/70/15 fits. They leave only 3/16 to the swing plate bolts. I am going with 6.5 mm spacers. Together, I will get just about a half inch from the bolts. I like the spacer size as it seems to be the maximum mm before needing to change the studs.

If anyone thinks there are any issues with this, give a yelp!

You should be fine. Anywhere from 7mm to 16mm spacer (depending on car, ride height, camber, and tire) seems to work for a 7R on the rear. If you need more room on the inside you can shave down the swing arm bolt/nut with a grinder, or go to longer studs and more spacers.

Recommended spacer in the rear with 7R fuchs 1969-73 911 is 15mm. I think this rim should have wider tires, like 205/65(1% wrong) or 215/60(638mm)

    New Update.

The 185/70/15 XWX tires are on the 7R rear rims. Yes, the car handles differently as the rear clearly turns in faster durning cornering. I used the 6.5mm spacers. I can see why the 15mm are recommended as the tires looks smaller in the wheel well. I want to get a larger look in that wheel well and I think I have two options. Either buy 2 XWX tires in 195/70/15 or put the 15 mm spacers, leave the 185/70/15 tires and do the longer studs.

    Any ideas.

    Thanks

I had 7R fuchs on the rear of my 2.2 Targa with 215/60 tires and 15 mm spacers. Here is what you need, bolt on spacers from Boothe Design. No need for longer studs and can be removed easily for a return to stock deep 6 wheels.
