    Vintage Paint

I'm sure this is the rookie of rookie questions, but what type of paint was used by Porsche back in the 60's? Did they use Imron 6000, a lacquer, or what? I'm trying to avoid putting something on with clear cloat. I know that's not what they did back in the day, and it would hurt the value of the car.
Can it be done while meeting EPA standards in this day and age? I know California is out, but what about Nevada, Arizona, or Utah? I appreciate the help.

Glasurit paint. You can still get the 1-stage paint online. Have it shipped to where you are. You can use it yourself or ask your local paint shop to use it.

My car had lesonal paint from the factory, not Glasurit. I just had it painted in its original Albert Blue using single stage Lesonal paint. Owned now by the Akzo Nobel group. The paint code plack in the door frame should have a letter before or after the number to indicate the brand of paint used. I think there where a third paind brand also used starting with the letter H.

yes there was Glasurit, Lesonal and Herberts.
So Lesonal is now owned by Akzo Nobel, .......cool my new metal garage features baked-on Akzo coatings which comes with a 50 year warranty against fading. good stuff!

here's a link to paint coding and formulation online:

    Targa, Rich, and John,
Thank you so much for the info. Already going to the links you sent. Hopefully is will be going to a paint shop soon. Need to get it out the maint shop first, ha ha.
Time to bulk up on Signal Yellow. Too bad it's such an ugly color. I like the basics: red, silver (metallic), or black. No worrie, I wont even consider changing it from SY.

    Paint

Were a lot of cars painted with Herberts?

My 911 was painted with Lesonal. Paint code 6822 Champagne yellow. Would it be okay using Glasurit 6822 for touch up? [ rear muffler panel ] Or do I have to use Lesonal?
    Thanks.

    Glasurit - Signal yellow

    NV Stig,
This was done with single-stage Glasurit - signal yellow (without any wax) which was original to my RS.

Yes, but I believe (from the data I have) that it started to be used about the 1968 model year, so about mid 1967. What I really need is more good data.

    Lee,
A picture says a thousand words. Your RS is a showpiece, absolutely stunning. That's a single coat? I'm impressed.
