    Cool 1972 oil tank - is it real??

    OK so i have been stripping my car for blasting and resto. and today removed the oil tank . Now the tank is all Ali and correct right down to the location of the pipes and float sensor . But it loOKs nothing like the photos i have seen of ones for sale on ebay or pelican forums !!! is it an impostor or is there a change in tanks along the way ?? because this is one nice piece of workman ship

    looks nothing like the production tank, must be a custom design.. Any history on the car that might indicate it was played with in its past??

    i have a recipt from the early eightys for a dip stick and thats all. The car was in germany untill 83 so who knows ?? but the welds are to good to be done by hand or who ever did this was a skilled man , there is even the dip stick holder tubes inside the filler cap.

    I don't think it's original. There's someone on the Pelican Parts Porsche 911 bbs
    that has the same oil tank. You might want to go over there and check it out. Might be able to find out where it came from..

    I think 72 oil tanks are NLA, and the cost of NOS, may be greater than fabricating a replacment tank. There was some talk over at DDK, about a limited production.
