shims and spacer, did the factory used them

As i am building the rack to hold the car to do the rust surgery, i do all the door alignment now , using the measurement from a great fellow here , set everything up , but here is where it is weird, both the latch stricker and the hinge have shims or spacers, plastic on the latch an galvanised on the hinges

they dont seems to be home made but , after seeing what the (reputable shop ) did , i have serious doubt that the factory used them

in the even that they did, how many is considered a maximum, are they the plastic and steel

    thanks again

my car has shims on the hinges and striker.
i am sure they are factory.
the hinge ones are metal, the striker
    shims are plastic
i cannot tell you what the maximums would be.

I have a shim under the lower hinge on my drivers door. I looked on PET and it shows the shim and calls for a quantity of 4. Part # 901 531 391 20 they call it a desk pad.

i guess the plastic shims are not painted, but were the steel one done or just galvanised finish

These are hand built and individually fitted cars, the plastic striker shims and the galvanized hinge shims are fitted as needed as the car is assembled. There is no specific number, just whatever is needed. When the door is removed the proper way to do it is to remove the hinge pins, otherwise you'll be doing all that factory gap fitting all over again. I trust the body dimension diagram will help.
