Polo red .. which paint brand is on your car

My car is originally 6602 Polo red. I am not a big fan of that color but the car is so original (invoices, books, nuts, bolts) that I am kind of reluctant to change it's color but restore it as it left the dealer in June of 66.

I would like to get in touch w/ other owners of 6602 Polo red cars to find out which shade of Polo red I like the best or comes the closest to the original that still can be found on the car.

I would appreciate it if you contact me if you had your car painted and recall the brand that was used.

    Thanks

    Richard

I had my paint/body guy use Glasurit for this car. Nov'65 production, MY66 with 6602 paint code. Door jambs were not repainted and it was a near-exact match.

    Wink Polo Red

    Hello,

I'm in the same position with a 911S from 1968 which is being restored. I've decided to stick to the original Polo Red for originality sake.

I'm not crazy about the colour until I realized it could be a shade darker, closer to the 356 red, which feels deeper and is actually quite stunning:

This particular shade of red seems to match factory photographs as well as the Polo red reproduced in a paint sample brochure dated from 1968.

Nate .. I have to admit that the polo red on your car gets me a little closer to leave it the original color.

Milou that is a nice swatch book you have. Is the Polo red the correct shade for 66 as well?

I understand your thought process. Red is nice but Porsche had so many other brilliant colors. However, it did look nice when done. Here's another (FWIW, I no longer own this car).

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

One of the thing about red is that there are so many different versions of the same color.

In the 356 world, I don't know that I've seen the same Ruby Red twice! It's almost a standard joke in the club. The best Ruby's I have seen were always darker and appeared to have more blue in them.

I'm sure the same can be said for Polo Red. I'm not partial to the color, and feel there are better colors out there.

I'll take a look at my 2 polo red cars, and see in the door jambs what I have versus the current paint on the cars, and I also have a paint stick, and a very large color sample book. It will be 2 weeks, as I won't be back to the cabin till then.

    regards,
    Eric
