    Extra oilcooler or aftermarked A/C?

    Hi all!
I found this strange cooler inside the rear left fender on my car. First I thought it might be a second external oilcooler, but now I suspect it has something to do with the A/C. Have never seen a cooler placed here, what is it???

    Regards,
    Radmund

It is an additional A/C condenser, used on some A/C kits depending on brand.

    A/C pictures

Posting some pictures of the A/C. Itīs supposed to be dealer installed, but I donīt think itīs OEM. Would be very happy to get an answer. The car has had rear wiper before the A/C, so if itīs not original, I will replace it with a rear wiper system.

The Airconditon is called: Frigette mobile air systems. In the smugglers box I can read: Air Conditioner, Drier Filter Receiver.

    Thanks! That was quick
If you take a look on the other pictures, could you also tell me if this A/C is OEM, period correct or just junk that I should rip out?

Where is the evaporator? The drier is usually in the wheel well on the drivers side front and the evaporator/blower motor rests in the smugglers box.

    Definitely not a factory setup.

    Thank you very much Tom.
You get a very "cheap" and plastic feeling of this A/C, I have hated it for a long time now. Iīm working to get confirmed that the rear wiper was factory installed, missing info in the Stuttgart archives.. But it would be wonderful if I could get it back in place. Better with an extra wiper here in Norway, much rain and low tempratures... A/C is a total waste here

But what about the compressor, is that one also of a later type?

Yes, the compressor is of a later style, not a type that was used "back in the day" It would have been a 2 cylinder piston type, actually the compressor looks like the best part of that system. Like Tom said, not a factory type system, in fact it's not even a good aftermarket system, at least as far as the mechanics of the system. I would do my best to eliminate all evidence of that system!

Worm gear hose clamps on high pressure refrigerant hose. Not factory.

    rear condenser

Carefully remove the rear condenser in the fender and you will find a buyer for it. Photograph the mounting points before removal. Extra condensers are always good in an A/C.

The question about the evaporator, probably combined into the under dash system. Not too unusual. Definitely not worth keeping IMHO.
