Lightweight RSR Tribute: RHD 1971 Porsche 911

    http://911virgin.com/rsr.htm

911 2.8 RSR lightweight type recreation. Based on a 1971 car that was delivered to Belgium. We think the car was destined to be raced from an early age, certainly at some stage the car was stripped to a shell and extensive work was carried out to lighten it as well as remove the guttering. Following an article published in 2004 it was suggested that the shell may have been campaigned in the Daytona 24 hour race in or around 1974/5, certainly according to a team member from that time the modifications carried out to the shell were consistent with cars raced at the event. Rebuilt from a bare shell in 2003/4 using lightweight panels the car was campaigned in a number of sprint races and used as a road touring car. Recently the car has undergone further work to give it a wide body and also a quick release Le Mans style exhaust system. Engine-wise the car has a 2.8 10.5:1 compression unit with JE pistons, S cams, light weight aluminium flywheel, RSR front pulley, gas flowed crankcase, 019 fuel pump re-calibrated for a 2.8 engine, 2.7 RS heads and induction. Together that lot produces something in the order of 240bhp. Spec also includes A five speed dogleg gearbox, 2.7 RS front calipers, alloy trailing arms, 10 by 15 inch and 11 by 15 inch alloy wheels shod with new Michelin TB 15 course radial tyres. This is not intended to be a faithful copy of a period car, more a historic recreation based on a historic donor car which may have some race history. Ideal as a toy to keep in the garage, take to shows, do some touring, the odd track day and possibly even a bit of racing. Which ever way you choose to use it a unique car that certainly turns heads and draws a crowd where ever it goes. Mot until May 2009. Supplied with a UK registration document (V5) & MSA competition car log book.
