Thread: Repaint experiences?

    Repaint experiences?

Someday I'd like to repaint my '72 back to its original color. The CoA claims the original is "Emerald (Kelly) Green / 8383". I've never had a car repainted, much less a 37-year-old car and have no idea what to expect wrt cost, paint availability, should I look for any particular skills by the painter? A wide open topic ... but it's all new to me! Here's a pic of the car in its original shade of green (very much a '70s color)

Nice car - I would love to find a set of chrome wheels like those!

Try to find someone who works with Glasurit paints, especially the "22" series, which is nearly the same as the original Porsche paint, though hopefully the clearcoat has improved over the years.

I'm pretty sure they did not use clear coat back then.

OP: yes this is a very open question. It depends on how detailed you want to go and what "other" work they have to do. A basic respray might cost $2,000; $4,000 for a color change; $10,000+ for a full show car quality paint job.

Nice car Greg. Do you mean 3838 (225)? 8383 is a lot darker.

    Thanks.

The CoA says 8383, whatever that's worth...

    Oh, I'm still looking for that engine/case ... 6121036

Sometimes the "Authenticity" of that expensive paper is not on the money. Heh.

Enerald (Kelley) Green is #3838 aka 225. What's the door jamb plaque number?

Greg, I think 224 is called Metallic Green, which is #8383. Hmmm.

    Paint it Dalmatian Blue!
