    67 Headlight bucket color

Well I have done a bit of searching as well as some personal observation on my friends (Steve) '67S we are doing a general clean up on.

I'm trying to figure out just what is the "correct" color for the headlight bucket. I have read the excellent restoration thread by "hoffman912" where he painted them white but all the photos I have seen from other cars show them to be either gray or a grayish silver.

On Steve's car they are both a silver gray. However, while one has been completely re-painted so that I can't really tell what was there at first the other looks like it might indeed be original. I say this because there is still Hella part number info painted on the surface that faces outward (towards the headlight bucket). This outer portion is gray but the inner surface (headlight side) is silver and looks like it might be too neatly applied to be a later repaint.

So a definitive answer would be greatly appreciated!

    A light primer gray.

I assume you're talking about the sleeves that are between the glass front lens and the headlight? Mine were a light grayish color. After 40 years of sun they must certainly have faded.

I lightly sanded mine with very fine paper to remove any stains and repainted with a light grayish primer that was a very close match.

    Hope that helps!

Well with the pictures I could find and the responses I've been given I have decided to go with gray. I will do the best I can to match it to the outer portion of the one bucket I have that has the original paint. It just bugs me because the silver paint on the inner portion of th bucket (towards the glass looks so darn original...Moving on to my next question shortly...
