    Engine Choice

I have purchased a 1966 911 with an S body The engine in the car is early 70's 2.4. I have pulled that engine for rebuild or I am looking at a complete change. The car is about 70% and the body is going under a refurbishment and paint. My question is since the 2.0 is long gone what engine would you put in the car. My very experienced mechanic who is building the engine no matter what i decide, suggests a 2.7. I will attach a couple of shots of the car.
    cheers

    Hi Peter,
well if you got an true 66 911 S that I would go for an alloy 2 litre S + build up, so at least as you don't ave the original engine you have build it up to more that original specs plus some increase...
An S from that year is too valuable to not try to recreate it..unless you build an R Gruppe car.....free to choose...still I would go with 2 litre, but I like smaller engines better ....they scream nicer....

There was no 1966 S, 1967 was the first year of S's. What is the VIN?

1967 MY was the first S, but there was 4-5 months of 1967 MY production
    in 1966.

Agreed, however a 1967 S is more valuable than a 1966, all else being equal.
Without the VIN we don't know what he really has anyway.

For a SWB honestly I would recommend a 2.5 L with Weber Carburetors and 911S or similar camshafts, with 9.5-10:1 compression.

The best thing to start with is the original '65-68 Aluminum case and bore it out to 97mm (stock is 92mm) for holding 90mm cylinders.

OR you can find a 2.7 case, which is magnesium(=lighter), and a bit cheaper when you're all through with the machine work.

The 2.7 Mag case is probably best for the total vehicle weight and less expense.

The 2.0 Alu case is stronger for racing, and more correct for the vintage of the car.

    A 2.5 is a 2.7 with a 2.0/2.2 Crankshaft that allows it to rev more. I do have a perfect 2.0/2.2 911S crankshaft available.

If you have the money/interest for twin plugs, e-mail me, I can put together a nice distributor and complete ignition package. In this case you can push your compression a bit higher, 10.5-11:1.

Is this true? I have researched otherwise.

Production of the model year 67S startet in August 66 and ended in July 67.

P.S from a financial perspective you are better off with a non-matching 2litre.
PSS from a financial perspective you are better off with a late model Ford
